Out in the Country Spotify Video Loop

Target Audience: music fans, music animation fans, our band's fanbase, Spotify users, ages 18-27, rock n roll listeners

Length: Spotify video loops only allow for 8 second of animation. I am creating all the artwork and assets myself so I hope 8 seconds is okay. I can use our song over the top of the animation loop and loop it till the song is over. the song is 2 minutes 55 seconds long.

Objective: Create all assets by hand drawing, illustrating, and animating in After Effects and Adobe Animate. I will loop the animation and put the song over top for audio.

Calendar: 

WEEK14 – Preproduction / Concept: robot stomping around in a city destroying. zooms out to owl in tree with a pipe burning and record player spinning. Or no zoom just same frame throughout loop. 
11/20 – Pitch Presentations – in class

WEEK15 - Animatic
11/27 – Work Day: will be illustrating all hand drawings and laying out the graphics into position including the cityscape, robot, owl in its tree hole etc
11/29 – Animatic Due, Work Day

WEEK16 – Animation – Post-Production Tips/AE: I will be adding animation to the graphics. likely nesting animation within each part of the animation including the robot, fire burning in the city, the owl and its burning pipe and record player spinning.
12/4 - Work Day
12/6 – Show Progress

WEEK17 – Animation: I will be adding even more animation if not completed yet. Fire burning in the city, lasers shooting from the robot's eyes, etc.
12/11 - Show Progress / Work Day (Last day of class)

Final Deadline 12/19 - Noon

Tone: desolation. dark. destroying danger. isolated from city life. Safe and away from danger in the city. retreat into out in the country. 

Plot: As the giant death robot destroys a distant city, shooting lasers from its eyes, waving its mechanical arms around, and stomping around in the streets, an owl sits in its tree hole smoking a pipe and listening to spinning records watching from the distance.

Theme: Being out in the country is the best place to be. Cities are prone to chaos and annihilation. You can sit way out in the country and watch as the cities reach their inevitable doom and chaos.

Elevator Pitch: Imagine how safe you'd feel being in the country during an apocalypse. I really appreciate living in the country my whole life. It's a simple life, peaceful yet grandiose, and feels safer than a city. If a giant robot ever destroys the city, you can watch from the distance in the safety of the country. Check out my band's song "Out in the Country" on all streaming platforms!

Tagline/lyric from song: "Out where it's rural - find a place to dose, don't need nothin' except your back and your clothes."

The look and feel of this animation artwork will be very illustration-style. I want it to be simple looking in terms of shape and detail, but have a lot of shading and various layers adding depth and a sense of realism overtop of the simple shapes and illustration. The feel of the animation will largely come from watching the animation loop as the song plays. The guitar / bass riff is very dominant and stomping sounding - like the robot stomping around. The lyrics simply express the leisure of being in the country while the beat and slide guitar solo express the destruction of the distant city.
